Bisthakandi is a famous tourist spot located in Goainghat
upazila of Sylhet, mainly known for its stone quarry and springs and clear
water coming down from the hills of Meghalaya. Here at the foothills of the
Khasia Hills, the Umkrem River merges with the Pyain River, creating a rocky
beauty, and a boat trip offers spectacular views. If you want to go from Dhaka
to Bishatkandi, you have to reach Hadarpar by CNG from Sylhet city via
Ambarkhana, then you have to go to the main spot by boat.
Main attractions:
Rocky River View: The clear water of the spring coming down
from the Khasia Hills flows over the rocks, creating a calm and pleasant
environment.
Boat Trips: Boats can be hired from Hadarpara to explore the
main spots of Bishtakandi, Panthumai Jharna and surrounding areas.
Meghalaya Hills: Magnificent views of the towering hills of
Meghalaya can be seen on three sides.
How to go:
Dhaka to Sylhet: Reach Sylhet by bus, train or plane.
Sylhet to Bedikandi:
CNG: From Ambarkhana CNG station go to Hadarpar with local
CNG or reserve CNG for the whole day (approx. Tk 1000-1500).
Boats: Hire a boat from Hadarpara boat ghat to the main
point of Bishatkandi (bargain the fare).
Best time to visit:
The Bedishkandi form is most abundant after the monsoon,
especially from July to October/November, when the water flow in the springs is
high.
Necessary Preparation:
Bring light and easy-drying clothing, sturdy shoes, sunscreen,
hat and camera.
Caution:
Being a border area be careful and beware of stones or
bottles coming from the Indian side.
