Historical Teliapara Memorial , Habiganj , Sylhet ,BD

 

Teliapara Memorial is a unique witness to the history of Bangladesh's great liberation war, located inside the Teliapara Tea Garden in Madhavpur Upazila of Habiganj. On April 4, 1971, the first historic meeting of the Liberation War was held in this tea garden bungalow, where a strategic decision was taken to divide the entire country into 11 sectors.

Some important information:

Background: On April 4, 1971, Colonel MAG Osmani, Major KM Shafiullah along with the senior army officers of the East Bengal Regiment met in this bungalow and decided the war plan.

Construction: The construction of this memorial started in June 1975 in memory of the martyred freedom fighters of sectors 2, 3 and 4 of the great liberation war and was inaugurated by former army chief Major General KM Shafiullah.

Shaheed Bedi and Monument: The memorial has a golden bullet sculpture at its entrance and the famous poem "Freedom You" by poet Shamsur Rahman is engraved on the entrance pillar.

Present Status: This place is now not only a historical monument, but also popular among tourists as an excellent picnic spot due to its lush green tea gardens and picturesque surroundings.

 

Travel and Location: Located near Madhavpur Upazila along the Dhaka-Sylhet highway, road travel is very easy. Come by bus from Dhaka or any other district and get down at 'Teliapara Gate'. From there one can reach this memorial inside the tea garden by autorickshaw or own vehicle.
